My name is Joe Hutchinson. For the last ten years I’ve lived completely off-grid, traveling and camping across the American Southwest. My journey started with a rough year in southern Mexico and Belize, where I lost my dog and everything else, before making it back to the States and starting over.

I now run on 1000 watts of solar, collect rainwater, and spend much of my time visiting and camping in the beautiful Mogollon Rim area. I pass my days exploring old roads, watching weather move across the mountains, cleaning up campsites, reducing wildfire fuel, and building friendships with the wild animals that share the forest.

These stories are about the real, unfiltered moments that happen out here — the kind cameras often miss. The unlikely friendship with a fox I named Foxi. The nonstop chaos of a rope-obsessed squirrel called Psycho. The daily struggles and quiet joys of choosing a simpler life.
